My work has spanned store operations, customer experience, store layout, menu design, brand partnerships, loyalty strategy, and retail transformation — with a deep focus on the evolving cannabis marketplace.
I’ve built and led teams through growth and restructuring, launched programs, and implemented enterprise software in every functional domain — connecting data, people, and purpose into cohesive systems.
I’ve lived the daily retail grind, survived security threats, and turned those hard-earned lessons into industry-first security systems that protect both people and product.
Rooted in Northern California — home to the most sophisticated cannabis consumers in the world — my work reflects the creativity, resilience, and competitiveness that are the trademarks of the world’s largest cannabis market.
Today, through Mark McMillan Consulting, I work with boutique dispensaries and emerging brands to strengthen their operations, elevate customer experience, and prepare for the next wave of AI-driven retail.
Whether we’re refining a business model, optimizing a store layout, or curating a menu that truly sells, my goal is the same: to bring structure and momentum to good ideas — from thought to finish.
For the last 25 years, I have called the Presidio of San Francisco as my home. The Presidio is Federal land which means that cannabis is still illegal - this is why I refer to it jokingly as “The East Berlin” of cannabis. Navigating the remnants of cannabis prohibition requires a special constitution.
